Walk to School Training 2017

Pedestrian Safety Training for Walk to School Day 2017

The Shasta Safe Routes to School program is offering safety kits, supplies and training for schools who want to coordinate Walk to School (W2S) Day, October 4, 2017. Complete the application and return it by Wed. August 30, 2017 to be eligible.

Kits include safety vests, banners, posters, and flyers for students that walk, and pedestrian safety educational materials.

Parent groups/organizations and site councils are encouraged to apply. [Update this hyperlink to include new application –soon to be attached] A training to coordinate the event will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 5:30 in the Cypress School cafeteria. The training will include how to coordinate a successful event, crossing guard safety tips, and how to coordinate a walking school bus (supervised group of students walking to school). Stipends are available for schools that incorporate daily walking school buses as a way of getting kids to school. Up to $5,000 per school/school year is available.

Schools need to have a parent group/organization (ie. PTA, parent club, site council) or staff willing to coordinate the event. Schools are encouraged to continue weekly walks throughout October to keep the walking movement to school alive.
