March 8: Shasta Bike Challenge 2023 registration opens on Love to Ride.

March 17-27: Clean California Community Days-Spring into Action- Caltrans District 2 would like to invite you to participate in “Clean California Community Days – Spring Into Action”, a statewide event that spans from March 17 to March 27, 2023. Communities across the state are encouraged to create new habits that reflect pride, learn about proper trash disposal, environmental impacts, and discuss with neighbors how to improve their community. Pledge to pick an area to clean up, do some landscaping, or plant a garden. The activity can be as big or as small as you wish! Click here for more information.

March 25, noon-3pm: Clean California Community Days Festival at Big League Dreams Hockey Rink. This fun, interactive, and family-friendly event is free and will help connect people with resources in our community to help keep California clean. More information here.

March 31, 5:30-7pm: Bigfoot Adventure Challenge Opening Celebration at Fall River Brewing Co.

April 4, 3-4pm: Week of the Young Child: Learn to Ride a Balance Bike- As part of First 5 Shasta’s Week of the Young Child, join the Manzanita Parent Club and Healthy Shasta for a Balance Bike demo and bike safety event. Balance bikes are key for learning balance toward learning how to ride a bike. Children will have an opportunity to try a bike (these bikes are best for 4-7 year olds) and learn how to properly fit a bike helmet.  Event will be held at Manzanita Elementary School. April 20, noon-1pm: Shasta Bike Challenge Info Call- Join this virtual meeting for Workplace and Group Champions to understand how to compete in the Shasta Bike Month Challenge, Bike Month events, and tips for encouraging people to join your team! April 22, 11am-4pm: Redding Earth Day Festival- Shasta Environmental Alliance (SEA) hosts an all-ages Earth Day celebration in Caldwell Park. A variety of organizations, including local environmental groups, will be there teaching children and adults about the importance of our environment. There will also be multiple organizations hosting hikes, educational events, and other experiences during the month of April in conjunction with this Earth Day event. April 25 – 28: Shasta Gravity 4-Day Gravity Grom Clinic at Swasey Recreation Area – Visit shastagravityadventures.com for more information.

April 27, 5-8pm: Bike Month Kick-off Celebration- Join us at The Park in downtown Redding to celebrate the start of Bike Month 2023! Come learn more about the fun cycling events and community rides taking place during Bike Month in May. A bike tune up will be given to one lucky person who attends and signs up for the Shasta Bike Challenge.  Free Bike Valet provided by Shasta Wheelmen.

May 1: First day of the Shasta Bike Challenge- Make sure your profile is linked to a team and you know how to log your rides!

May 6: Redding Sports LTD Bike Swap- Anyone can buy, anyone can sell! Bike Registration is May 4th and 5th, 10am to 6pm and Saturday morning 10am to 11am. $5 to register a bike, $30 to rent a booth. All registration and booth fees will be donated to the Redding Composite Mountain Bike Team. Call for more info: 530-221-7333.

May 3: Bike to School Day

May 11, 5:30-8pm: Vine and Dine for Parks- This event at Redding City Hall is the signature fundraising event for the Redding Parks & Trails Foundation with food, wine and Silent Auction items. Ride your bike to Vine and Dine to support local parks and trails! Purchase tickets here.

May 12: Opening Celebration of the Shasta Bike Depot and Redding Bikeshare- Shasta Living Streets will have a full day of activities, hosting a number of guests coming to celebrate. March Fourth Band is the musical entertainment for the evening. Tony Tavares, Caltrans HQ Director joins as the keynote speaker.  More information available at their website: shastalivingstreets.org.

May 13: 10 am – 2 pm: Redding Trail Mixer- First Trail Social event at Swasey Recreation Area uniting different trail user groups for an engaging day of education and trail related activities. Free event with food and drinks, demo mountain bikes, group mountain bike rides and runs, backpacking equipment fitting demos, mini poker run and more! Organized by the Redding Trail Alliance.

May 19: National Bike to Work Day- Host a ride with coworkers either during, to, or from work to practice commuting by bike and build comradery!

May 19: Asphalt Cowboys Pancake BreakfastRide your bike to the annual Asphalt Cowboys Pancake Breakfast to get a free breakfast ticket (while supplies last)!  There will be free bike valet parking thanks to the Shasta Wheelmen. 

May 20 & 21: Lemurian Classic Mountain Bike Race features a cross country race and chainless downhill race at Swasey Recreation Area. Visit their website for more details. 

May 21, 9:30-11:30am: Women, Wheels, and Wine Ride- See details below.

May 27, 10am: President’s Low and Slow Ride- See details below.

May 31: Last day of the Shasta Bike Month and Challenge- Make sure all of your rides are synced/logged by June 1st!

June 9, 6 -10 pm: Bigfoot Adventure Challenge and Bike Month CelebrationJoin the Shasta cycling community for some fun as we wrap up both spring challenges. Join us at Caldwell Park to pick up prizes, socks, and stickers if you competed in either of the challenges. Food and drinks available for purchase. Free bike valet provided by the Shasta Wheelmen. Prize pick up will be 6-8 pm; the movie, The Engine Inside will start at dusk (8:30 pm~). Bring a blanket or chair, and bug spray to enjoy the show.

2023 Rides

*All rides are beginner-friendly and will feature safety tips for riding in traffic, let you experience the comfort of riding in a group, and familiarize you to routes that may be different from motor vehicle routes. Please make sure you have a bike in good working order, bring a water bottle and helmet (required for rides). All riders will be entered into a drawing for prizes. Ride will be cancelled if heavy rain. Be safe, follow the rules of the road, and have fun!

May 1, 6pm: Get Acquainted Ride- Join the Shasta Wheelmen at the Sundial Bridge to get acquainted with new riders and log some miles for the Shasta Bike Challenge! This is a beginner-friendly ride of 6-12 miles. No one will be dropped!

May 15, 6pm: Get Acquainted Ride- Join the Shasta Wheelmen at the Sundial Bridge to get acquainted with new riders and log some miles for the Shasta Bike Challenge! This is a beginner-friendly ride of 5+ miles. No one will be dropped!

May 17, 7pm: Ride of Silence- The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police, and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. This group ride is taken in silence to honor fallen cyclists and led by the Shasta WheelmenThis is a beginner-friendly ride, no one will be dropped. More details to come. 

May 21, 9:30-11:30am: Women, Wheels, and Wine Ride- The Women of the Wheelmen will lead a ride for women starting and ending at Matson Vineyards (10584 Arapaho Dr. Redding). Snacks provided post-ride. Wine tasting available for purchase after the ride. This is a beginner-friendly ride of about 20 miles with frequent stops. No one will be dropped!

May 27, 10am: President’s Low and Slow Ride hosted by the Shasta Wheelmen. This ride starts next to Woody’s Brewing Co. in the Walgreens back parking lot. This is a beginner-friendly ride featuring a slow pace and low elevation gain, no one will be dropped! The ride is about 2 hours with frequent stops. Grab a bite to eat at Woody’s Brewing Co. after the ride. Please register for this ride.
