Walktober 2024 Recap

Thank you to everyone for making Healthy Shasta’s Walktober 2024 challenge a success! We saw great strides in team building and walking this year. We had 1388 participants (record turnout!) and together we walked an average of 7000 steps every day. We had 132 worksite and 28 individual teams competing. The highest team count was the Enterprise Elementary School District team with 62 members. Shasta Community Health Center had the highest number of worksite teams with 24 teams!

Results:

The grand prize for the workplace team was awarded to Shasta County Health and Human Services Administration team, ‘The Young and the Breathless’. This team of eight active colleagues averaged an impressive 7.6 miles every day! They are currently in the process of choosing a $500 worksite wellness tool to use in their office to promote wellness.

The individual team grand prize was awarded to ‘4 real walkers’! This team of four extremely enthusiastic walkers averaged 10 miles every day! They won gift cards to Fleet Feet to get some new walking goodies as well as Healthy Shasta swag.

We found that 562 participants surpassed their personal goals set for walking with user ‘BoyMama’ smashing their goal by 618%! 332 walkers completed the virtual 100-mile challenge with user ‘teeganknight’ setting the record for completing the challenge in 6 days! User ‘melbelly’ was the most improved walker with a 732% increase in walking when the first and last week of the challenge were compared.
